August 15, 1956- Three Teenage Gangs Negotiate Truce

On August 15th, 1956 The Lower East Side Neighborhood Association mediated the truce amide the Police Department’s renewal of its juvenile delinquency program. All of the gangs represented a different ethnic circles- The Enchanters and Sportsmen made up predominantly of African Americans, The Dragons members Puerto Ricans, and The Mayrose a group comprised mostly of Irish and Italian boys.
