On August 2, 1997, Burroughs died of a sudden heart attack at the age of 83 signaling the end of this crazy, exhilarating, and influential generation. William Seward Burroughs II was born on February 5th, 1914 in St. Louis, Missouri. He is best known as a de-facto leader of the Beat Generation. Burroughs moved to New York in the spring of 1943. An associate introduced Burroughs to Allen Ginsberg and to Jack Kerouac. Much of Burroughs work stem from his experiences as a heroin addict.
