On June 28th of 1936, leading member of the anarchist movement Alexander Berkman committed suicide after suffering for years from a painful illness. He was 66. Frick immigrated to the Lower East Side in 1888 and married the well- known political activist Emma Goldman. In 1982, Frick tried unsuccessfully to assassinate Henry Clay Frick who had cut wages at Carnegie Steel Company and used violence shut down strikes. After serving 14 years in prison, Berkman worked editor for the anarchist journal Mother Earth and created his own journal The Blast.
