June 19, 1953 – Julius and Ethel Rosenberg Executed for Espionage

On June 19, 1953, Lower East Siders Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were executed by way of electric chair at Sing Sing prison after being found guilty of selling nuclear secrets to the Soviet Union.

The couple were both raised on the Lower East Side, and met at a communist club at Seward Park High School.
